From a Kitchen Table to Start up Firm of the Year

Zac Hayes, founder and Director of HA Accounting

A local business, founded from a home office two years ago has grown to be recognised as the Start Up Firm of the Year at a national industry awards.

HA Accounting was formed by Zac Hayes, who at the time became the youngest registered tax agent in Australia.

With offices in Albury, Tocumwal, Shepparton and Yarraville, it’s been a meteoric rise for the business, reflected in winning the Start Up Firm of the Year at the Australian Accounting Awards in Sydney.

Zac describes the accolade as a real team effort.

Success at the Australian Accounting Awards for HA Accounting. Laura Marks-Craven, Zac Hayes, Regan Mitchelson and Elly Cottrell celebrate.

“It’s pretty big and definitely the most rewarding experience of my career thus far,” Zac said.

“To have the team’s hard work recognised not only nationally, but within the industry is pretty huge and a real honour.”

Given the competitiveness of accounting firms from the capital cities, Zac is proud to have flown the flag for a regional business.

“It’s really nice to be one of the only regional firms represented in the awards,” Zac said.

“I really like to push the fact that we can bring innovation and technology within the industry to regional Australia which is a great passion of mine. We also have one of the biggest social media followings within our industry.”

HA Accounting and individual staff members were nominated for eight awards in all.

“We weren’t too optimistic being a national industry award, but to walk away with the Start Up Firm award is really kudos to the team and all our clients for really rallying around us,”
