Enjoy the summer vibe with a range of activities this weekend. Here are just five ideas of things to do around Albury Wodonga and surrounds.
Relax – SunDay FunDay, Cofield Wines Wahgunyah
Join winemaker Damien Coffield and the team for a relaxed day of music, food and bevvies on Sunday 10 February.
Mark Haze will perform on the lawn from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. The Wine Bar will be serving up wines, cocktails using local gin and Bridge Road Brewer Beer.
There are plenty of activities for the kids including a jumping castle, face painting and plenty of outdoor lawn games. Food HQ will be serving up some delicious street food , something for everyone.
Active – Cumberoona Run, Albury
This fun run was originally a race against the PS Cumberoona, but it’s now a race against the Sienna Daisy (provided river levels are high enough).
Compete, or watch as runners take off for an 8 kilometre fun run along the picturesque Wagirra Trail, while the Sienna Daisy will also charge down the river. The runners and Sienna Daisy will then turn-around and to the start/finish at the boat ramp in Noreuil Park.
The run starts at 8:00am Sunday.
Explore – Beechworth’s Hidden Wineries Touring Trail
On the second Saturday and Sunday of the month a select group of wineries throw open their cellars (sheds, barrel halls, gardens and vineyards) for visitors between 11:00am and 4:00pm.
Haldon Estate, Baarmutha and Indigo Vineyard have picnic facilities where you can enjoy the grounds. Serengale Vineyard’s cellar door is set within their winery and Bowman’s Run and Star Lane lie in the sleepy hamlet of Wooragee.
Amulet has lunches from noon to 3:30pm whilst Indigo Vineyard does cheese and charcuterie platters. The Cellar Door Wine Store in Beechworth showcases a comprehensive range of Beechworth wines, some of which are available to taste.
History – The Way of the Reformer: Gough Whitlam in his Century, Albury
Gough Whitlam shaped the Australian nation, but before that, the Australian nation shaped him.
An exhibition underway at the Albury LibraryMuseum, marks the centenary of Gough Whitlam’s birth and tells the story of the man behind the legacy – the bright Canberra schoolboy obsessed with Greek myths, the RAAF navigator braving hazardous skies at the height of the Pacific war, and the young father starting a family on the urban fringe.
Chill – Vinyl and Vino – Afternoon Sessions at Valhalla Wines, Wahgunyah
The record player is on and you can select from Anton’s vinyl collection or bring your own records. It’s a relaxing way to enjoy a weekend afternoon with great tunes, board games, cheese and charcuterie platters available.
Anton will be behind the bar serving hand crafted wine, some local beers and he might even make you a sneaky cocktail if you ask nicely.
