There are options aplenty to soak up the summer vibe around Albury Wodonga and surrounds. Here’s our hit list of five ideas to tempt you.

Scenic – National Paragliding, Bright

Look to the skies around Bright, Porepunkah, Buckland Valley, Gundowring and Mt Emu to see Australia’s top paragliders compete in a seven day competition, taking off near Bright.

The event carries high value World Ranking points on the World Pilot Ranking System and allows pilots to gain Paragliding World Cup selection and thereby entry into higher ranked comps worldwide.

Chill – Vinyl and Vino – Afternoon Sessions at Valhalla Wines, Wahgunyah

The record player is on and you can select from Anton’s vinyl collection or bring your own records. It’s a relaxing way to enjoy a weekend afternoon with great tunes, board games, cheese and charcuterie platters available.

Anton will be behind the bar serving hand crafted wine, some local beers and he might even make you a sneaky cocktail if you ask nicely.

Family Fun – Great Australian Duck Race, Bright

Australia’s biggest duck race takes over Morses Creek in Bright’s Centenary Park for the annual Great Australian Duck Race on Saturday 12 January from 7:00pm.

It’s quite a sight, with one thousand yellow rubber ducks floating towards the finish line. Buy a duck for your chance to win, with funds from ticket sales going towards local charities.

Explore – Beechworth’s Hidden Wineries Touring Trail

On the second Saturday and Sunday of the month until winter a select group of wineries throw open their cellars (sheds, barrel halls, gardens and vineyards) for visitors between 11:00am and 4:00pm.

Haldon Estate, Baarmutha and Indigo Vineyard have picnic facilities where you can enjoy the grounds. Serengale Vineyard’s cellar door is set within their winery and Bowman’s Run and Star Lane lie in the sleepy hamlet of Wooragee.

Amulet has lunches from noon to 3:30pm whilst Indigo Vineyard does cheese and charcuterie platters. The Cellar Door Wine Store in Beechworth showcases a comprehensive range of Beechworth wines, some of which are available to taste.

Fun for All –  SunDay FunDay at Cofield Wines, Wahgunyah

Join Cofield Wines for the SunDay FunDay on 13 January for live music, and food and drinks.

Southbound will perform on the lawns from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

The Wine Bar will be serving up wines, as well as some fantastic cocktails using local gin. There will also be Bridge Road Brewer beer available. The kids will have a great time on the jumping castle, face painting and plenty of outdoor lawn games for all the family.
