If you haven’t got your weekend sorted yet – here are five ideas things to do around Albury Wodonga and surrounds.

Tastings – Beechworth’s Hidden Wineries

A select group of boutique wineries will throw open their cellars, sheds, barrel halls, gardens and vineyards this weekend for the inaugural Beechworth Hidden Wineries touring trail.

Haldon Estate, Baarmutha and Indigo Vineyard have picnic facilities where you can enjoy the grounds. Serengale Vineyard’s cellar door is set within their winery and Bowman’s Run and Star Lane lie in the sleepy hamlet of Wooragee.

Amulet has lunches from noon to 3:30pm whilst Indigo Vineyard does cheese and charcuterie platters. The Cellar Door Wine Store in Beechworth showcases a comprehensive range of Beechworth wines, some of which are available to taste.

The wineries will open to the public on the second Saturday and Sunday of the month between 11:00am and 4:00pm from now until June.

Fun – Beechworth Oktoberfest

Beechworth craft-brewery Bridge Road Brewers is hosting its 14th annual Oktoberfest celebration of beer and music.

The event is based around the original Oktoberfest held in Munich in late September each year.

The authenticity of this event is bolstered not only by the four piece OhmPah band, traditional outfits and cuisine, but also by the beer brewed especially for the occasion.

As is tradition in Munich, they also brew their own Marzen, or Oktoberfest beer, more than two months ahead of the event. This allows for the beer to age or large in tank for a prolonged period, resulting in a smooth malty lager, perfect for such a celebration.
