Albury’s Macauley Jones, the son of former driver and current Supercars team owner Brad Jones, prepares to join the Supercars grid as a wildcard entry for the Winton Super Sprint this weekend (19 -21 May).

While the 22 year-old is a regular driver in the second-tier Dunlop Super2 Championship, Jones knows it will be a steep learning curve racing against the main series drivers.

“I’m trying not to set any expectation going into this event,” Jones said.

“It’s something I’ve thought a lot about and it’s just one of those weekends where I’m going to have to gain as much experience as I can and race and drive as best as I can.

“I know I need to step up with these main series guys. These guys really are on a level up from Super2, I’m excited to get out there and learn from racing with our BJR guys too – Slade, Percat and Blanchard,” he said.

Jones underwent testing at Winton last Monday (8 May) to build his confidence ahead of the weekend.

“The test on Monday at Winton was really interesting for me,” Jones said.

“It was my first run in the car with the new Dunlop SuperSoft tyres – I was a big fan of them; we’ve been on a hard tyre the last couple of years in the Super2 Series, so it was great to have a go at these new tyres and feel really confident about the tyre grip underneath you.”
